Teams rise to the Motu Challenge

St Paul's Collegiate School —

On Saturday 12 October 2019, four teams competed in the Motu Challenge, one of the North Island's biggest multisport events. The race consisted of a 67km mountain bike, 17km run, 55km road bike, 27km kayak, 12km road bike and finishing with a 3km run.

All teams performed extremely well. Special mention needs to be made of Oliver Larcombe and Dean Stewart who won the school event in a time of 7 hours 30 minutes (fifth overall!), with the team of Arna Morris, Angus Riordan and Caleb Weck finishing third school team overall – first in the mixed team division, with a time of 7 hours 53 minutes. The team won $1,000 to share amongst themselves. All students were Year 11 or Year 12 which puts them in great contention for more money and prizes at next year’s event.

Thank you to Mr Keegan Stewart for accompanying and providing encouragement for the students in this gruelling event.
