A celebration of culture and diversity

St Paul's Collegiate School —

In the spirit of celebrating different cultures and diversity as a whole, the 2019 international week served up an array of activities and discussions.

From food stalls and student video presentations to discussions and cultural performances, there was a lot happening around the school during international week (19-23 August).

The school was treated to a special performance by African drummer, Yaw Asumadu, during Monday's assembly. His bio is as follows:

Yaw is an inspirational musician crossing between jazz, funk and highlife. He has collaborated with Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Francis Fuster, Andy Summers and Oren Marshall – pioneering Tuba player.

Yaw is a Master Drummer from Ghana, Africa, and is proficient in drum kit, African drums and percussion; plays bass guitar, Xylophone and Atentenben bamboo Flute to a professional standard and is competent in a range of other instruments.

He is also a composer, teacher and performer, featuring on stage, audio and film. Having taught successfully for almost 20 years in London and across the UK, he is a well-respected educator and a member of several bands who perform live internationally. Born in Ghana and having spent over twenty years in London, Yaw moved to New Zealand with his family in September, 2018.

Thanks to all the students and staff who got behind international week 2019!
