St Paul's sporting legend honoured at Regional Sports Awards

St Paul's Collegiate School —

Former St Paul's staff member, Peter Gilbert, was honoured at the Waikato Regional Sports Awards, held at Claudelands Event Centre on Thursday 30 January. Peter received Wintec Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award, a fantastic achievement!

In presenting Peter with his award, Sport Waikato said:

Over 40+ years Peter has taught over 3000 students, written 6000+ reports, has taught over 24,000 lessons and has coached over 1000 boys for rugby.
Peter's philosophy - physical activity for lifelong wellbeing is very much based on a hands-on approach - demonstrating the “moves” and then “walking the talk”.

Also honoured at the event was St Paul's supporter and Collegian, Jon Tanner, who was awarded the Hare Puke Leadership in Sport Award.

Initiator and innovator come to mind when I think about our recipient. The coach and founder of Midlands Hockey, Founder of the NZ Hockey Foundation, Foundation Trustee of Momentum Waikato Foundation.
Our award winner tonight gives so others can benefit, supports and develops so others can reach their potential and finally, initiates so a drawing or dream can become reality.
Congratulations on a well deserved award Jon!
