BUSIT card change

The BUSIT card for travelling on urban and regional buses was replaced by Bee Card on Monday 6 July 2020.

BUSIT cards will not be accepted from Monday 6 July 2020 and students will need to use a Bee Card to access the cheapest fares.

There are no student concessions to begin with - just one Bee Card fare and one cash fare. Concessions will return later in 2020.

Free weekend/school holiday travel for youth will also end.

For most students, switching to the new system will be a three step process.

1. Getting a card

2. Registering it

3. Transferring credit

For more information, visit www.busit.co.nz/about-us/bee

1. Getting a card

There are a number of ways to get a card:

- In the mail - one FREE card was sent to all Hamilton addresses in June.

- Online - www.beecard.co.nz

- On board the bus anytime

- From the BUSIT counter at the Hamilton Transport Centre

- From your school office/student services centre

2. Registering your card

Once students have a card, they need to create an account and register their card to it to make it active. They can register their card:

- Online at www.beecard.co.nz

- Over the phone - 0800 205 305

- At the BUSIT counter at the Hamilton Transport Centre.

More than one card can be registered to a single account. We advise that cards are linked to the billpayers' account for easy online top up.

3. Transferring credit

Students can transfer credit over $1 from their BUSIT card to their new registered Bee Card. They can transfer credit:

- Online at busit.co.nz, using this form here

- Over the phone - 0800 205 305

- At the BUSIT counter at the Hamilton Transport Centre.
