Godspell success during a month of music
Music oozed out the gates of St Paul's this month with several major musical moments.
Godspell
During a really busy time for the performing arts, the School's annual production, Godspell, wrapped up the month. Students put months of hard work into the show resulting in a production that was professional, upbeat and fun. The musical skill of both the band and vocalists was incredibly high with flawless accompaniment allowing the singers to perform with confidence. The choreography was expertly arranged by Year 12 Francesca Hickey with the dance and movement adding energy to the show. The band was conducted by Year 13 Jackson Mackwood while he played the drums - a coordinated effort to admire. Congratulations to the cast and crew of Godspell for an outstanding show. For a full list of cast members, see the programme here.
Concert Band
The Concert Band attended the Matamata Festival of Bands, performing to a high standard where they were awarded a Bronze for their performance.
NZ Chamber Music Competition
Two groups from St Paul's attended the New Zealand Chamber Music Competition held at the University of Waikato on June 7.
The Haydn Trio, Ryan Koo, Olivia Zhao and Martina Zhang received a Highly Commended for their performance, and the Ibert Trio, Monique James-Thomas, Bella Egan and Fionna Sun received the KBB Award, The Judges' Choice, awarded to one group at each regional location.
Big Sing
The Mixed Choir and Chamber Choirs performed at Big Sing in Tauranga on June 15. Both choirs sang beautifully. The highlight of the day was an impromptu performance of Tagaloa, that our Chamber Choir performed with Rotorua Boys' High School. That truly displayed the heart of what the event was all about. Congratulations to the choirs on two great performances this month.
Rock Quest
Two of our rock bands - Orange and Lime, and The Bagels, performed in the Waikato Regional Heats of Smokefreerockquest. Both groups made it through to the Regional Finals where both gave excellent performances and The Bagels were the overall winners (read more here). Good luck to The Bagels as they prepare to move on to the next round.
Orange and Lime: Nic Jones, Brooklyn Snelgrove, Sam Fletcher and Jack Walch
The Bagels: Jackson Mackwood, Jackson Norris and Asher Downing
Fieldays
The choir performed at the Fieldays Primary Leaders Luncheon to an audience of dignitaries including Her Excellency the Governor General. The students were commended for their composure and exceptional representation of the school.
