Going beyond in volunteer work
The 2023 Waikato Volunteer of the Year ceremony had St Paul's Collegiate School student William Rushbrooke in attendance as a finalist in the Volunteer Excellence Awards. He was nominated for the volunteer work he does with the Refugee Orientation Centre Trust (ROC) and for his contribution to the programme during the past 18 months.
The ceremony was held at the Wintec Atrium. The citation for his nomination read, 'William helps tamariki strengthen their literacy, maths and confidence through a range of activities from Lego building to playing soccer. William noticed a need one day and used his initiative to help in any way he could. He is a great example of going beyond the role description and looking for creative solutions.
Congratulations William on the nomination.
