Congratulations to the following students; your results are due to hard work and hours of commitment. 

Four St Paul's students, Sophie Dunn, Caitlin Foote, Anika Cowley and Jasmine Davis, participated in the Hamilton City U16A Representative Netball Team that attended the U16 North Island Junior Championships during the July school holidays. Caitlin Foote was named MVP for the U16A team at the recent prizegiving.

Congratulations to the Lodge Real Estate First XI cricket players Campbell Soanes, Tom Yetsenga, Michael Robinson, Reilly Benefield, & Jay Benefield on their selection to the Northern Districts Academy. The Academy is a support programme delivered to promising cricketers based in the Northern Districts to support them to become future first-class cricketers.

The following students undertook a rigorous Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 5 Music Theory Examination. Brooklyn Snelgrove (Distinction), Jack Walch,Sam Fletcher (Merit), Venessa Joyce (Merit), Jackson Norris, Nic Jones (Merit).

Lachyn Moeke and Anika Cowley (Year 11s) have been selected to play in the Waikato U16 Girls' Rugby team. 

Dylan Gardiner (Year 12) and Matthew D'Hotman (Year 13) have been selected as part of the 22-man squad to represent New Zealand Men’s U17 Football against the New Caledonia U17 team. They will attend a camp in August, during which two fixtures will be played against the opposing team. 

During the school holidays, Matthew Chanwai (Year 13) competed in the Hamilton Strings Competitions which was held at the University of Waikato Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. This competition has been attended by Matthew and his family for the past 18 years. This year, Matthew received the following awards:

  • three awards for solo cello performances
  • two First Prize trophies
  • the Martin Griffiths Cello Cup for Excellence in Cello Performance (8th-time recipient) 

Roy Zhu (Year 11) competed in the 2023 Hamilton Competitions for Pianoforte and Speech which were good preparation for the upcoming Grade 8 Trinity Speech and Drama and TCL exams for Piano. After the competition, Roy was invited to perform for the Hamilton Competitions Showcase of selected top performers from each musical discipline. Roy received the following awards:

Hamilton Pianoforte Competitions (14 years and U16)

  • 2nd place: 20th - 21st Century
  • 3rd place: Own Selection

Hamilton Speech Competitions

  • 1st place: Prepared Speech 
  • Roslyn Cunnington Trophy for Overall Best Prepared Speech
