Frankie Muir celebrates 50 games with the Girls First XI Hockey by Supplied

Congratulations to the following students who qualified in July for an award of a Sports Cap.

Hockey Caps

Emma Lobb (Year 13) was first selected for the Girls' First XI in Year 11. Emma is a striker who has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. She has scored some really important goals for the team over the past three seasons. Emma is a fantastic team member who is always enthusiastic and positive. She has helped significantly in the positive shift the team has made over the past three years.

Lucy O'Meeghan (Year 13) slotted straight into the Girls' First XI in Year 11 and quickly established herself as an important member of the team's defence. She reads the game very well and is consistently in the right place at the right time to make key defensive plays. Lucy is a very popular team member and has made a huge contribution to the positive team culture of the team. She epitomises what it is to be a St Paul's sportswoman.

Frankie Muir (Year 13) not only played her 50th game, earning her Sports Cap, but she was also selected to play in the Waikato U18 Womens Team. Frankie arrived at St Paul's 2021 to what was a bit of a hockey goal-keeping crisis. She quickly established herself as the solution to that situation. Frankie's robustness has been the rock of St Paul's girls' defence since then. She is a great shot-stopper who takes enormous pride in her role for the team. Her performance this year was rewarded with her selection in the Waikato U18 women's team. Frankie is a great character and a very popular team member who lives and breathes the values of the St Paul's Girls' First XI hockey team.

Football Caps

Tom Yetsenga (Year 12) joined St Paul's in 2020 as a Year 9. Tom made his debut the same year against Hamilton Boys' High School (HBHS) Second XI. He has been ever-present in the team since then. As an outstanding goalkeeper and a natural leader, Tom has consistently displayed a cool head under pressure while showing the ability to make big saves in key games. Tom was a vital member of the team that finished 4th in the country at the 2022 National Tournament.

Dylan Gardiner (Year 12) came to St Paul's in 2020 as a Year 9 and also made his debut that year against HBHS First XI. Dylan is a versatile center-back who is equally comfortable playing in central midfield. He has consistently performed at an outstanding level and has displayed maturity beyond his years. Dylan was Captain of the New Zealand U17 team that won the Oceania U16 Championship in 2022.

Louie Short (Year 12) became part of the St Paul's team when he arrived as a Year 10 in 2021 and made his debut that same season against HBHS First XI. As a tireless worker in central midfield, Louie has displayed a knack for scoring important goals. He is a low-maintenance but high-output player whose work ethic and selflessness are an example for his teammates to follow. Louie was a key member of the First XI team that came 4th at the 2022 National Tournament.

Lucah de Roo (Year 12) made his debut as a Year 9 in 2020 against HBHS Second XI. A livewire attacker, Lucah was a pivotal part of the First XI team that came 4th at the 2022 National Tournament. Lucah excels in one-on-one attacking situations with his cleverness and speed. Lucah has been a constant goal threat throughout his time in the First XI, consistently contributing important goals in key matches.

Lucca Lim (Year 12) played his debut in 2021 against Cambridge High. Since this debut, Lucah has been the centerpiece of the First XI midfield, displaying a high level of game intelligence and tactical understanding. With an outstanding range of short and longer passing, Lucca has shown the ability to open teams up with incisive attacking play. As a set-piece specialist, Lucca has also contributed a number of key assists during his time in the First XI.
