Girls' First XI Hockey Team by St Paul's Collegiate School

Hockey players earn their caps

Five players from the St Paul's Girls' First XI Hockey Team received their sports caps. These players are also members of the Waikato U18 team.

Grace Walters ‘sorry-I’m-late’ Walters is a very popular member of the Girls' First XI Hockey Team. She is very versatile and has been called on to play a number of different positions, sometimes even in the same game. Gracie is a very positive team member and looks out for her teammates both on and off the field. She has been a huge asset to the Girls' First XI programme and well deserves her cap.

Somer Williamson has become an outstanding striker. She is one of the best defensive strikers in school girls' hockey, brave and determined with very good timing. She has also become very adept in the goal circle scoring some crucial goals for the team this season, including the winning goal in the Marie Fry semi-final and a very well-taken goal in the final. Somer is very committed to the team and to her own progress in hockey and it has been fantastic to see how much she has developed over the past two seasons.

Grace Potter is an exceptionally skilled hockey player who added immediate impact to the St Paul’s Girls' First XI Hockey Team when she arrived in Year 11. Gracie, with her silky dribbling skills, has been one of our most potent threats on attack. She also has a great defensive game and a very high work rate. Gracie is a great trainer and has worked hard in hockey over the past few seasons. She is a talented player with a bright future.

Renee Carey is an absolute machine of an athlete. She's a reliable midfielder with an incredible work rate, roughly clocking double the kilometres than anyone else on the field in a match. She has a strange habit of trying to catch the ball when it balloons in the air, despite the rule allowing a player to use their hand to control the ball changing in 1973. Renee gives her absolute all and just about needed to be carried from the field at the end of Tournament Week this season. She has been a hugely important part of the Girls' First XI Hockey Team and thoroughly deserves her cap.

Alyssa Fenemor aka 'The Cambridge Express' has brought so much passion, enthusiasm and competitive drive to the Girls' First XI Hockey Team. Alyssa is a strong and very fast striker who is very good at putting opponents under pressure. She is a natural forward and plays with great intent and goal-hunger. She is the type of forward every hockey team needs and is a huge asset to the Girls' First XI Hockey Team. We are very lucky she is playing for us and not against us.
