Service at St Paul's
After three and half years of restrictions, the Chaplaincy Team returned to Waikato Hospital to serve patients by assisting with transporting them to the Chapel.
This service, along with many other initiatives were acknowledged at a special assembly where the Rev offered these words, "These service opportunities are celebrated today and are now an integral part of who we are as a school community. These service initiatives are embodied in the Christian dimension and special character of St Paul’s Collegiate School and are held up as exemplars by many other schools across Aotearoa New Zealand as programmes to aspire to. Those involved in this are the servant leaders of the school and today we acknowledge those servant leaders.
"As a school, we seek to constantly live up to the challenge of Jesus who once said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive", and to seek ways that students can engage with transformational community service in a variety of different settings. One of the most unique components of our service programmes, unlike many other schools in our nation, is that our programmes are entirely voluntary.
"As you know, hundreds of students each year make a personal commitment to voluntarily support the significant service opportunities made available at St Paul’s. Many of you are involved and I would like to thank you for your commitment to the service programmes and also to thank the staff that provide these opportunities.
"So today we thank you all. Thank you for your service at the Refugee Orientation Centre Trust, Over the Fence Ministry programmes at Bankwood & Fairfield schools, Saint Joan’s Ukulele and Art Clubs, Waikato Hospital Chaplaincy service, feeding the homeless and those with food insecurity at the Serve, Community Fridge & Foodbank, Bankwood School Ukulele Club, World Vision 40 hour famine, the Boarders Charity Relay supporting the work of Flame Cambodia and the successful St Pauls Colour Run.
"As we thank all those involved with community service programmes today, we also acknowledge individual student leaders for their significant and exemplary leadership and commitment to the service programmes. Today we award Service Badges to year 11s, badges and Service Ties to year 12s and the ultimate accolade, Service Colours to year 13s."
