WaiMaths
The WaiMaths Competition attracts the brightest math students from schools across Waikato and is organised by the Waikato Mathematical Association.
On the evening of 8 August, three teams of three St Paul’s students took part in the annual event at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato. Approximately 17 schools competed in each of the Year 9, 10 and 11 divisions - the competition was tough.
Each team was given 20 challenging mathematical questions to answer in 45 minutes. The questions required collaboration, problem-solving, and time management for the students to maximize their overall scores.
This year, both the Year 9 and Year 10 teams each placed second in their division which is an outstanding result. Being placed in the top two schools in both these divisions is a noteworthy and special achievement.
The Year 11 team also placed well at 5th. The Year 11 division is the most challenging and competitive division and this result is highly commendable.
Thank you to the teachers, Mr Torrance, Mr Ross and Mrs Hastie who assisted the teams in preparing for the competition.
