Cap recipient, Kade Slade by St Paul's Collegiate School

Four students received sports caps

Girls' First XI Football

Caitlin Lou (Year 13) has played for the First XI Girls' Football Team since Year 11 with a total of 48 games.

Caitlin is a hardworking striker who presses the defence relentlessly. She forces mistakes from the opposition which the team capitalises on. She is fearless, often going up against defenders far bigger than her, but her determination and courage mean she wins the 50/50 challenges. Caitlin fully deserves her football cap.

Mariska Pereira (Year 12) has played for the First XI Girls' Football Team since Year 11 and is our first-ever Year 12 girl to earn a cap having played a total of 41 games.

This achievement is due to Mariska never having missed a game. She epitomises commitment and dedication. This year, she has stepped up in captaining the team which consists of mainly new players. Mariska is an integral part of our midfield, always running, always there and always ready for a pass or to be a defender. Her fitness level is next to none. She is an invaluable player and a critical member of the team. We can't wait to see her continue to lead the team next year.

Boys' First XI Hockey

Kade Slade combines unpredictability with unrivalled strength and stamina for the Boys' First XI Hockey Team. His aggressive style of play, combined with natural speed makes him a potent force on the turf. Kade also brings a level of maturity, reliability and experience that has earned him the role of Co-Vice-Captain for the Boys' First XI in 2023. He also represented Waikato U18s this year in the National Tournament in Dunedin. Kade has become an integral part of the team over the past four years and has plenty to offer in his remaining games.

Tom Allen has a sense of calmness on the hockey turf, while still remaining composed while carrying out the important role of the freeman in the defence. He often catches teams off-guard with his ability to hit the ball to strikers through the heart of their defence. As the only remaining defender from the 2022 Rankin Cup Team, Tom sets the example for other defenders. His experience and status within the playing group have led him to the role of Co-Vice-Captain for 2023. Tom represented Thames Valley at the National U18 tournament and has recently been added to the University of Waikato Hockey Club's Premier Men's team.
