St Paul’s Snowsports Team maximises the snow
Conditions have been brilliant for the St Paul’s Snowsports Team during the month of August. The team of 25 students enjoyed skiing and snowboarding this year at Turoa and Whakapapa. With fantastic snow conditions (the best for many years), and a large contingent of students wanting to go on these trips, the season so far has been fantastic.
Despite the fact that there has been no secondary school ski racing since 2019 due to Covid-19 and unfavourable ski conditions, the team continues to have fun on the mountain and will be ready for the return of the competition in 2024.
In addition to time in the Central North Island, a group went to the South Island. For the first time this year, Rev and Mr Tierney took ten students to Queenstown and spent the leave weekend at Cardrona Ski Field. Again, fantastic weather and brilliant snow conditions ensured another successful weekend. There is one more weekend to go before the school holidays and it will be the busiest weekend ever with more than 20 students on that trip. Staff and students continue to improve their skiing and snowboarding skills, increasing confidence and it's great exercise for us all both physically and mentally.
