Rob Evans by St Paul's Collegiate School

Meet the new staff: Rob Evans

Outdoor extraordinaire and passionate scientist Rob Evans joins St Paul’s Collegiate School as a teacher and instructor at Tihoi Venture School.

Gaining a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Physics (Honours), Rob followed his passion for adventure and began working in outdoor education centres in 1997. Wanting to explore teaching, Rob completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Outdoor Education and Physics in 2004 and has been educating in schools ever since. He also holds his NZOIA Kayak 1 certification, meaning he can organise, instruct and guide kayak journeys.

Rob’s ventures have taken him to England, Wales, France, Canada and South Korea over his 24 year career but has called New Zealand home since 2007. Rob joins St Paul’s from Sacred Heart Girls’ College in New Plymouth where he taught physics, led the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award and instructed outdoor education.

Forever keen to share his knowledge of the outdoors, Rob is a firm believer in learning and growth through experiences outside of the classroom. He’s excited to join the reputable Tihoi Venture School and share how science in the outdoors makes academics relevant.

Rob and wife Susan share a one-year-old son, Lachie, and their ‘over-friendly’ labrador-huntaway dog, Hana. The family will relocate to Tihoi in February before being accompanied by 60 other male students when Intake 2022/1 begins.
