Waikato Secondary Schools Regional Swimming Championships by St Paul's Collegiate School

Medals won and records broken at Waikato Secondary Schools Regional Swimming Championships

On Tuesday 26 May, 26 St Paul's Collegiate School swimmers competed at the Waikato Secondary Schools Regional Swimming Championships at Waterworld, where the group achieved several medals and broke four records along the way.

Ollie Mouat broke the meet and St Paul's records in both the intermediate 50m freestyle in 24.16 seconds and the 50m butterfly record with 25.66 seconds. Boston Tordoff also broke the meet and St Paul's records in the 50m breaststroke in 30.11 seconds and the 100m breaststroke record in 1.06.30 minutes.

The highlight of the relay races was the senior boys' team of Ollie Mouat, Ben Haskell, Samuel Peoples, and Boston Tordoff, who won the medley and freestyle relays against champions Hamilton Boys High School.

The boys finished second overall, and the girls finished fourth; congratulations to the following individuals on their outstanding results:

  • Ollie Mouat (Year 11) swept his events coming first in the 50m butterfly, first in the 50m freestyle, and first in the 100m butterfly 
  • Sophie Perry (Year 12) won three events in the 50m freestyle, 100m medley, and 100m backstroke
  • Boston Tordoff (Year 12) won the 50m and 100m breaststroke races and finished second in the 50m butterfly 
  • Neo Urlich (Year 10) finished first in the 100m backstroke and the 100m medley and second in the 100m freestyle 
  • John Park (Year 9) won both the 50m and 100m breaststroke races 
  • Amelie Austin (Year 11) finished first in the 100m medley, second in the 50m and 100m freestyle
  • Alina Zabel (Year 12) finished first in the 100m breaststroke, second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50m freestyle 
  • Samuel Peoples (Year 13) finished second in the 200m medley and 200m freestyle and third in the 100m butterfly 
  • Ben Haskell (Year 13) finished second in the 50m and 100m backstroke 
  • Sam Lewis (Year 9) finished second in the 200m medley 
  • Sadie Williams (Year 11) finished second in the 50m butterfly 
  • Benjamin Allen (Year 13) placed second in the 50m freestyle 
  • Lily Jarrett (Year 11) finished third in the 50m backstroke 
  • Adrian Wong (Year 13) placed third in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m medley
  • Matthew Chanwai (Year 12) finished third in the 200m medley 
  • Finn Freemantle (Year 9) placed third in the 100m backstroke race 
  • Lochi Hoy (Year 9) placed third in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle 
  • Stephen Miller (Year 9) finished third in the 50m and 100m freestyle
