Interstellar Writing Competition

Hamilton Book Month and Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato invite students to enter the Interstellar Writing Competition.

Visit and explore the exhibition, then respond to the visual storytelling with your own poems and short stories. Base your written competition entry on any aspect that captures your imagination.

One entry per person, which can be prose or poetry. There is no charge for entry.

Maximum length is equivalent of one A4 page or 40 lines of poetry, in 12pt font.

In the body of the email please include:

  • Your full name and your age 
  • The title of your piece
  • Which character or characters you are responding to
  • Contact phone number

Entries to be received by 13 August.

The winner and runners up will be contacted and invited to read at the National Poetry Day Open Mic event at The Long Room on Wintec’s city campus on Friday 27 August, 6:30-8:00pm when the competition results will be announced.
