On Wednesday 10 April, Ethan Peng (Year 11) sat a two-hour examination as part of the New Zealand Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics. This competition was the first time it was run in New Zealand. Any students who gained gold would continue preparing and have theopportunity to represent the country at the international competition in Brazil. It was an audacious undertaking with the examination content being at and above year 13 level. Despite being a year 11 student, Ethan gained an impressive Bronze placing.
Nine St Paul’s students tackled Mount Pirongia during the exeat weekend for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award. Along with Mrs Keep and Mr Aldridge, our Silver and Gold Award students embarked on a challenging two-day tramping expedition. Despite the fine weather, the technical track and notorious mud of the maunga made for a challenging time. Congratulations to everyone on their supreme effort and important step towards completing their awards.
Congratulations to Mitchell Rush (Year 13), who is selected to represent New Zealand in the Under 23 Men’s Division of the Barefoot Skiing World Championships. Mitchell will compete in Jump, Tricks, and Slalom.
