USA Football tour 2024
St Paul's Collegiate School's First XI Football team ventured across the United States during the holidays for an enriching tour focused on both athletics and education. The tour took them through Los Angeles and Phoenix, offering a blend of cultural immersion and competitive sports encounters.
Their journey kicked off with a visit to the late Kobe Bryant's Mamba Sports Academy, paying homage to the basketball legend's legacy. The team also had the opportunity to experience American pastimes firsthand by attending a Dodgers Baseball game on the same day.
The educational aspect of the tour came into play as the team explored the campus of UCLA, delving into the academic side of American collegiate life. However, the focus quickly shifted back to football as they faced off against FC Scorpions U18, resulting in a narrow 4-3 loss for St Paul's.
A highlight of the trip was the chance to train at La Galaxy's facilities and tour their stadium, offering the team a glimpse into the professional football world. Following this, they secured a satisfying 3-1 victory against Cabrillo High School, fully immersing themselves in the American high school sports culture complete with banners and cheerleaders.
Continuing their educational odyssey, the team visited CAL State University for insights into higher education in the U.S. They also had a captain's run with CAL State's top team before enjoying a delightful excursion to Bubba Gump Shrimp at Santa Monica Pier.
Transitioning to Phoenix via a six-hour bus ride, the squad faced off against Phoenix Rising U19, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The following day provided a break from football as the group marveled at the natural wonder of the Grand Canyon, appreciating the scenic beauty of the iconic landmark.
Upon their return to sporting action, the team toured Grand Canyon University before engaging in their final match against Arizona Arsenal U19, ending their tour with a 3-1 loss. Wrapping up their immersive experience, the boys attended a Phoenix Rising game, taking on the role of ball kids, cementing memories of their American football journey.
