The Big Band put on an outstanding performance for our community during the Headmaster's Assembly.
Over the holidays, Natalya Walker-Riggins (Year 13), Iona Martynoga (Year 12) and Tatenda Chikwiri (Year 11) travelled to Melbourne representing the U18 women Waikato lacrosse team where they competed in the 2024 U18 National Lacrosse Championship.
The team came fourth overall. Congratulations to these women on their international success.
Heads of School Sadie Williams and Will Hadley lay a wreath at the ANZAC commemoration service in Hamilton. We will remember them.
The First XV rugby team spent the holidays at Tihoi Venture School, where they completed a bunch of training and team-building activities. Bring on the season, draws can be found here
The librarian team has been busy creating displays for many of the public holidays and important anniversary days of the year. The student librarians spent hours cutting out poppies and designing and gathering props for their Anzac display. The Anzac poster was designed and created by Isobel Morton-Johnson (Year 12) and the army uniforms were kindly loaned to us by Cameron Stapleton, previous Deputy Housemaster of Clark House.
Well done to Year 12 students to Roy Zhu (Year 12), Daniel Zhao (Year 12) and George MacDonald (Year 12) who participated in the Auckland Model United Nations.
Students across the region applied, and the boys were offered spots for this event in Auckland. They dove into a world of diplomacy, representing respective nations through debating and policy-forming in a simulated United Nations caucus.
The Refugee Orientation Centre Trust, which St Paul's students are heavily involved in as part of the service programme, hosted their annual award ceremony last month. At this event, previous Year 11 service leaders of this volunteer programme, Charlotte Belz (Year 12) and Roy Zhu (Year 12), were both awarded the "Best Volunteer Award", awarded to young leaders in the Waikato for their community service and dedication to the Refugee Orientation Centre.
During the April holidays, Matilda Millar (Year 12) was fortunate to attend the Outward Bound Mind Body and Soul course in Anakiwa, Picton for 21 days. She was placed in a watch group with 13 other 16-18 year olds from all over the country. Over the three weeks they participated in a range of activities such as Tramping, Sailing, Solo, Kayaking and finished with a half marathon. The highlight was being able to disconnect online and push into new amazing experiences and challenges while making new connections and friends.
Roy Zhu (Year 12) has recently passed his Grade 8 Speech and Drama exam with Distinction, which is a Trinity College London Level 3 Award. He is now working towards his Trinity ATCL exam in Speech and Drama which is of equivalent standard to the first year of an undergraduate degree course at university.
