Open Water Swimming Champs

Eleven St Paul's swimmers placed 6th out of 78 schools at the NZSS Open Water Swimming Champs over the weekend of March 20-21.

A chilly southerly blew all day making water conditions very challenging. Sam Peoples, Isabella Etherington and Sam White showed plenty of grit taking on the tough early morning 3.5km swim. Sam Peoples and Sam White both finished 15th in the 16 to 19 years age groups, with Isabella finishing 24th in the 14 to 15 year old girls.

Eight more St Paul's swimmers took on the 1km swim with Boston Tordoff finishing 4th in the 14 to 15 year old boys, Charlize Tordoff finishing 4th in the 16 to 19 year old girls, Matt Chanwai finishing 6th in the 14 to 15 year boys, Ben Haskell finishing 7th in the 16 to 19 year boys, Will Peoples finishing 7th in the 12 to 13 boys and Charlie Etherington finishing 10th in the 12 to 13 year old boys.

A great effort by all swimmers in those tough conditions, well done!
