Over Matariki weekend, seven St Paul’s students ventured into the Northern Kaimais as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Along with two staff members, the Silver Award students completed a three-day tramping expedition in fine conditions. The students showcased their skills with some technical river crossings, meal preparation, plus a chilly night in tents. A highlight was the magnificent nighttime skies and special Matariki dawn. Well done to all for completing their Adventurous Journey section and taking another step towards Silver.

It was a triumphant day as the Jed Rowlands Cup found its place in the trophy cabinet for 2024, following a magnificent performance from all involved. This victory marked a fourth consecutive win in the 2024 CNI competition, culminating in a 30-21 victory over their close rivals, St Peter's School Cambridge.

With the wind at St Paul's team's backs in the first half, they executed a set-piece move straight from the training ground, resulting in a quality try by dynamic prop Chris Kahotea, which was converted by Logan Casey. This early lead was bolstered by two penalties from Casey and a late try by their hard-working skipper, Will Hadley, bringing the halftime score to 18-7.

Facing the wind in the second half, the team needed a significant defensive effort. Their forwards brought their power game, and St Peter's struggled against the relentless defensive line, making crucial errors close to the try line. A dominant carry by Zac Wilde resulted in a try, which was converted, extending their lead to 25-7.

St Peter's responded with two converted tries, narrowing the score to 25-21. However, with resolve and composure, the St Paul's forwards went to work, and powerhouse No. 8 Ben Kibby scored the final try, securing their victory at 30-21.
