Celebrating success

St Peter's, Cambridge —

At St Peter's, we believe in the value of recognising our collective accomplishments, both big and small. Join us as we celebrate the success of our community.

Waimaths: Our Year 9-11 mathematics teams represented St Peter's exceptionally well in the Waimaths competition on Tuesday night. In a competitive setting at each year level, our Years 9 and 10 secured a commendable fifth place, while our Year 11 team—comprising Samuel Moriarty, Amirdha Kanchi, Leon Lee, and Yongyan Wang (reserve)—achieved an outstanding first place. Congratulations to all of you!


Fashion Awards: Congratulations are in order for Year 13 student Ashley Sutherland, who recently clinched the Merit Award for her design at the Hokonui Fashion Awards. Ashley's entry was part of the Streetwear section. Additionally, Year 12 student Saskia Heald's design garnered attention on Seven Sharp after presenter Hillary Barry hosted the event as the MC.

Dance School: Congratulations to Amy Sciascia (Year 13) who was recently accepted into the Transit Dance School studying the Pre-professional Performing Arts Diploma in Melbourne,

The school offers limited space in the diploma programme; Amy was awarded one of two early acceptances at the 2023 Kairos Dance Convention, where she audited a 45-minute audition with 40 other dancers. Amy will be studying the diploma course for two years full-time. Well done, Amy.


World Championships of Performing Arts: An outstanding achievement for Jayden Pere (Year 12) at the internationally held world championship event focusing on Performing Arts. Jayden garnered a collection of medals, including two gold, three silver, and two bronze. Furthermore, he secured the title of Overall Champion in three categories: Dance – Musical Theatre, Modeling – Commercial Formal Male, and Commercial Swimwear Male. This exceptional performance led him to attain the esteemed World Grand Champion for Modeling title. Congratulations, Jayden!


Hockey: Five St Peter's 1st XI Hockey players were recently named into the U16 Waikato Rep team. Congratulations to Katie Taylor (Year 10), Tristram Gillbanks (Year 11), Kieran Lawson (Year 11), Thomas Hicks (Year 12), and Conan Chen (Year 10). We look forward to hearing more about the teams' successes.


Rugby: Congratulations to 1st XV rugby team members Dylan Eti (Year 13), Izzy Kamana (Year 11), Kaleb Tapara (Year 13), Johanson Tamala (Year 13), Marae Nepia (Year 13), Flynn Morey (Year 12) who have all been selected for the Waikato U18 squad to compete in the Northern Regions competition.


Girls Rugby: Kirsty Donovan (Year 12), Kallee Cryer (Year 12), and Zanzi Falahati (Year 11) recently participated in a Waikato Secondary School competition, contributing to the team's achievement of being crowned the Secondary Girls Champions for 2023.

Congratulations are in order for Chelsea Lea (Year 10), whose team emerged victorious in the Rugby 1st XV Waikato competition against Hamilton Girls High School. Additionally, kudos to Louise Dijkstra (Year 9), who played a role in the U15 team that secured a third-place finish.

Furthermore, we extend our congratulations to Greer Garland (Year 10) for her recent selection to the Waikato Rugby U16 Team.


Swimming: Congratulations to Alyssa Lawson (Year 9) and Alyssa Tapper (Year 11) on their recent performance at the New Zealand Short Course Championships. Lawson won gold medals in four separate freestyle events, and Tapper won two silver medals. Well done, ladies.


Basketball: Tannika Leger-Walker (Year 12) has recently been chosen for the U17 Junior Ferns team, which will be travelling to Papua New Guinea to compete in the FIBA Oceania Championships in October of this year.

Furthermore, the St Peter's Premier Girls Basketball team recently won runner-up in the Waikato Secondary School Finals.


Football: St Peter's 1st XI captain Luke Mitchell (Year 12) started in both New Zealand U17 games in Auckland last weekend. Luke helped his team achieve a 1-all draw 3-Nil victory against New Caledonia and qualify for the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup at the end of this year.


BMX: Continuing the streak of exceptional BMX performances on the global platform, Glasgow recently witnessed the BMX World Championships. In this event, Jack Greenough (Year 13) secured the 12th position in the Men's Junior Elite category, Lily Greenough (Year 11) earned an impressive 3rd place in the U16 Girls category, and Finn Cogan (Year 11) achieved a commendable top 16 finish in his age group. Congratulations to each of you for your remarkable achievements!


Alumni: Congratulations to Alumnus Mac Livingstone (2019), who recently received second place in the Registered Master Builders, Carters Apprentice of the Year competition. To read the full story in the Te Awamutu Courier, click here.
