Year 10 Hillary Outdoors Camp
At the end of Term 2, the Year 10 Hanna and Thornton girls enjoyed a five-day adventure to the Hillary Outdoors camp in Tongariro. Here’s what students Samara and Paige had to say about their experience.
Samara Janes-Nally: One of my favourite activities was the overnight trek. We walked three hours up the mountain through the cold, wind and frost. Unlike other groups who stayed in a fly tent, we were lucky to stay in a cabin. This is where all ten girls had to sleep under one tarp. Throughout the night, we played games and made smores.
Overall, we had a great time at camp. We were taught to work as a team and trust one another. It was good to get out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves. If you go to camp next term, we recommend giving it your best shot and trying something new.
Paige Madill: My favourite part of the trip was caving. I had never done this before and was worried about the dark and small spaces. But it was a lot of fun. We crawled through tight spaces and saw glow worms in the caves too. The guide also made this much easier by cracking jokes the whole time.
