Lambs Delight: Bringing soft spring cuddles to St Peter's

St Peter's, Cambridge —

The Agriculture-centre welcomes four delightful new members: Peewee, Barney, Solly, and Mungi.

The four Romney/Perendale cross lambs have come to the agriculture centre to be reared by the students. The lambs have been achieving substantial weekly weight gains three weeks since their arrival. This positive progress reflects the care and attention they receive. The initiative comes from the Year 13 agriculture/horticulture students who are studying the lamb export market for their external. Students learn about international market requirements and farm management practices to accomplish the best lamb grades and profitability.

The wider school community visit the lambs regularly with biology, Year 7 and 8 classes, and learning groups, all enjoying the spring feels. Students also often visit the lambs for some “chill time” – body, mind and spirit at its optimum.

Two Year 12 boarding students organise the 8.00pm night feeds through a roster system, which is quickly filled each week. Year 12 student Sophie Walker is our resident expert; she works at Spring Sheep – Monovale approximately 14 hours a week and juggles her school work and responsibilities.

On weekends, resident boarding families volunteer to feed the lambs, and this week, lambs were borrowed to visit a local daycare centre.
