Top School at Junior Swimming Championships

Ange Russek, Assistant Director of Sports —

On Friday 31 March, our representatives from Prep School Swimming Team swam at the Waikato Full Primary Swimming Championships held on-site at St Peter's.

What an absolutely fabulous day for the team!

The team members included Jonathan Ward, Alex Hobbs, Harvie Merrington, Alex Corin, Joshua Stapel, Kasey Wray, Kaylee Verhoeven, Sarina Tang, Alisa Li, Zoey Caffell, Chelsy Hurt, Mahlie Paul, Mila Woodfield, Imogen Coalter, Emily Robertson, McKenzie Liang, Luke Downey, Hugh Ballantyne, Isidro Reidel and Eric Zhang.

Eight swimmers finished in the top four overall for their races with Imogen, Alisa, Kaylee all swimming well in their event, and Sarina, Hugh, Luke, Chelsy and Kasey all having multiple races with a top-four finish.

Congratulations to Sarina Tang who won all five of her individual events to take out the overall Year 7 Girls Champion, and Chelsy Hurt who took out four events and a very tight 2nd in her 5th race to take out the overall Year 8 Girls Champion.

Luke Downey and Hugh Ballantyne were 3rd and 4th in Year 8 Boys respectively. These results showed huge commitment and effort from these four swimmers. It was wonderful to see their hard training work rewarded. Well done!

A huge contribution from all team members on the day meant we won all relays and also took out 'Top Big School' for the first time in at least a decade. This was an absolute team effort from our young team with everyone doing their part and swimming the best they could.

Full results for all swimmers will be on the website http://www.wfpsa.nz/events.html in the coming days, but for now, showing only the top four swimmers in each event and the overall point score winners.

Trophies will be presented in Term 2.

Thanks to our many parent helpers who time kept, and to Mrs Tang who managed the team for the day.

We look forward to watching as the team defends the titles next year.
