St Peter's CambridgeDecember 11, 2023

St Peter's Cambridge is pleased to announce Carl Perry as the new Director of Broadhurst House.

Broadhurst House is the senior boys’ boarding house on the grounds of St Peter’s and is home to boarding students from the wider region, country, and internationally.

Mr Perry is currently Director of Rugby, 1st XV Rugby Coach, and a Health and Physical Education teacher. He takes on the role of Director, Broadhurst House after four years in the role of Assistant Director.

Mr Perry has a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation from AUT and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Auckland. Prior to joining St Peter’s in 2020 he taught at Tauranga Boys’ College and was a Physical Education Teacher and Director of Rugby at Mount Albert Grammar School for four years.

Mr Perry is passionate about the positive influence boarding can have in the academic and social development of students, and he’s looking forward to playing a key role in the educational journey of boarders at St Peter’s.

“Being a boarder, and particularly at St Peter’s, is a unique experience,” says Mr Perry. “Students can really immerse themselves in everything the school has to offer and take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them, whether that’s sporting, academic, cultural, or service.

“Alongside our pastoral and boarding team, I’m really looking forward to helping our senior boarders maximise their experience at St Peter’s, especially as they look to their post-school futures.”

Mr Perry believes that as a boarder, the Year 13 year is a significant stepping stone as students look to make the most of their final year in high school and prepare for further study, work, or travel after graduating.

“Being on-site as a boarder in Year 13 is a unique opportunity to develop great relationships with the people around you, and those are relationships you’ll likely have for a long time after school is finished.

“We know that the sense of belonging our boarders feel, particularly in their final year, stands them in good stead for their futures, and enables them to go on and make positive impacts in whichever field they choose to focus on, and as house director that’s something I’m really proud to help play a part in.”

Head of School Marcus Blackburn says Mr Perry’s appointment reflects St Peter’s commitment to providing a world-class boarding experience to students from New Zealand and abroad.

“Mr Perry is an excellent role model to the many senior boys in Broadhurst House who look up to him. Mr Perry will excel in his role as House Director and help boarders make the most of their learning and development opportunities, especially in their senior years as they prepare for life after school.”
