St Peter's Cambridge — December 11, 2023
St Peter's Cambridge will compete in the Gillette Cup national competition for just the second time when the tournament starts on 17 December in Lincoln, Canterbury.
The current squad, coached by former Blackcap Anton Devcich, chased down 198 runs against Hamilton Boys' High to earn their spot at Nationals.
First XI cricket manager Matt Markham says the team is "battle hardened" after a big season.
"We have an experienced squad of mostly Year 13s who have played a considerable amount of cricket together, many of them since Year 7," he says.
"We're sending down one of the strongest 1st XIs St Peter's has had, and we look forward to playing hard, competitive cricket against some of New Zealand's heavyweight cricket schools."
Having prepared well with a pre-season tour to Brisbane in October and some hard, competitive games in the local men's premier club competition, the team is looking forward to capping off what will be, for many of the players, their school cricket careers.
"For many of the boys this will be the highlight of their time at St Peter's and a fantastic way to end their time in the 1st XI."
