Enrolment Policy - St. Teresa’s School, Riccarton
The Board of Trustees of St. Teresa’s School, Riccarton will ensure enrolment comply with the requirement specified in the Integration Agreement Act of 1975. The Special Catholic Character of our school will be upheld in all decisions. All preference students will be given priority over all and any non preference students seeking enrolment at our school. St. Teresa’s School is one of three primary schools in the Holy Family Parish.
Submitting an application for enrolment is not a guarantee of acceptance.
All students need to obtain a Preference Certificate from the Parish Priest of the Holy Family Parish, subject to parents and caregivers accepting and agreeing to the conditions stated on the Preference Certificate. Acceptance for enrolment is conditional on the issuing of the Preference Certificate.
PRIORITY IN ENROLMENT PROCEDURE
Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:
Priority 1
First priority will be given to Catholic children with preference who live within the traditional boundaries of the old St. Teresa's Parish, Riccarton.
Priority 2
Second priority will be given to siblings of current preference or non preference students (roll capacity permitting).
Priority 3
Third priority will be given to preference students who live within the secondary parish zone who have been declined places at either Our Lady of Victories School or St. Bernadette's school.
Priority 4
Fourth priority will be given to preference or non preference children (roll capacity permitting) of permanent employees of St. Teresa's School and also preference or non preference (roll capacity permitting) children of current Board members.
Priority 5
Fifth priority will be given to all other preference students who have been unable to secure a place and any other Christchurch Catholic primary school.
Priority 6
Non-preference students will be enrolled only if enrolment places remain after all other priority 1-5 applicants have been enrolled.
The maximum number of places available for non-preference students is governed by the maximum allowable under St. Teresa’s Integration Agreement.
Priority of non-preference will be given in the following order:
Non preference students who live within the traditional boundaries of the old St. Teresa's Parish, Riccarton who wish to participate in the special character programme of the school.
Non preference students who live within the secondary parish zone (the wider Holy Family Parish zone) who wish to participate in the special character programme of the school.
Non-preference students coming from another integrated school with the same special character.
All other non preference students
All unsuccessful applicants may choose to have their names placed on a waiting list. The waiting list will be kept within relevant priority categories, ranked in order. Students on the waiting list may be offered places at a later date if they become available. Applicants on the waiting list will have the first offer of non preference places as they become available.
Where there are more applicants available within the same priority category, they will be accepted in order of the date the pre-enrolments form was received. If pre-enrolment dates are the same, allocation will be via ballot.
ENROLMENT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS SEEKING ENROLMENT AT ST. TERESA’S SCHOOL
1. State integrated schools select preference students on the following grounds.
a. The agent for determining preference is our Parish Priest
b. The grounds for preference are in accordance with the Education Act 1989, Part 33, S442, and Catholic School Integration Agreements, through a general or particular religious connection as stated in the Preference Criteria Numbers: 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5.
Criteria for Preference of Enrolment in Integrated Catholic Schools
5.1 The child has been baptised or is being prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.
5.2 The child’s parents/guardians have already allowed one or more of its siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.
5.3 At least one parent/guardian is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the life of the school could lead to the parents having the child baptised.
5.4 With the agreement of the child’s parent/guardian, a significant familial adult such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle who is actively involved in the child’s upbringing undertakes to support the child’s formation in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church.
5.5 One or both of a child’s non-Catholic parents/guardians is preparing to become a Catholic.
2. State integrated schools have places for non-preference students.
a. This school has a maximum of 175 places.
b. Non-Preference places criteria (currently our non-preference roll is full):
i. The applicants accept that they will be attending a school of special character and that their place in the school is conditional on their participation in the programme.
ii. The applicants accept that they will be required to pay Attendance Dues as set by the Proprietor and these are not voluntary.
