Mihi Whakatau

Suzi de Gouveia —

Last Friday we welcomed our new children and their families with a Mihi Whakatau.

What a wonderful display of our cultural heritage and diversity.  Thank you to all of you who were able to attend, it was special to have you join us.  I was so impressed with our speakers who shared their feelings about our school with the new members of our community.  After the Haka, Connor welcomed them in te Reo Māori, Elisha and Averee spoke in Tagalog, Maria in Fijian, Elizabeth in Tongan, Samuel in Samoan and Fernando in Portuguese.  Roswin Smith, who is working with us this term spoke on behalf of all the new families and she spoke in Afrikaans.

Once that was complete we looked at St. Teresa's Way, which is what we live at this school.

Our school is a loving faith filled community, where every person is valued as a whole person.

The image below was created by Houston Scott, a past pupil.  It represents everything that we value at school.

Wishing you all a wonderful week.  Please join me in keeping those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle in the North Island in our prayers.
