The 22nd June is the day the church remembers St Thomas More. Our Year 4 students have been researching about him and here are their biographies about St Thomas More.

St Thomas More was very brave and helped a lot of people with their bad doing because he was a lawyer. He died tragically in 1535 when he was 57. St Thomas More went to Oxford University and studied law. He became a lawyer to help people with their wrong doings. He also read the bible a lot of times and he believed in Jesus.
Thomas More became a lawyer and he was doing a good job. King Henry 8th saw his work and invited him to join the government. The King trusted him and gave the money to him for safe keeping.
St Thomas More believed in God and he had a very strong faith. He showed courage and stood up for what he believed in even when the King put a lot of pressure on him to change the law which made the King more important than the church and God.
Thomas More did not agree to the law when King Henry wanted to divorce is wife. When St Thomas More did not agree with King Henry, the King was furious and told him he's going to be executed and beheaded. St Thomas More accepted his fate.
From Ruth Newton.
Thomas More lived from 1478 and died in 1535. He was a lawyer and he studied and went to Oxford University in London. Thomas More and King Henry were friends. King Henry was King of England and St Thomas More guarded the money for the King.
One day the King said to Thomas More he wanted to be more important than the church but St Thomas More did not agree. King Henry was very angry with St Thomas More so he ordered his workers to cut off Thomas More's head.
Why was he made a saint? Thomas was special and brave because he did not agree with the King. he stood up to the King and said the church must come first.
The church made Thomas More a saint and today there are many schools and churches in England named after him. We are the only St Thomas More School in New Zealand.
