Our Year 5+6 students have been involved in engineering challenges- getting ready for the EPRO8 competitions.
Using a kit similar to Mecanno each team designs their own machine.
On Friday our seniors were challenged to build a gondola system using a photo as inspiration. It took a couple of hours to put together but by the time the groups had completed their challenge the gondola was moving smoothly along the cables up and down.
Liam Robson took two of our teams to Aubert on Tuesday so that they could build in competition conditions. We are getting ready for the EPRO8 Catholic schools' competition which is coming up in Rotorua, hosted at St Mary's Rotorua and John Paul College.
The challenge with construction is being able to communicate your ideas to the group and to encourage them to work together to achieve the end product.
Sometimes individuals shine but they have difficulty explaining to their teams how to construct the machine and what they problems are.
