Today is the feast day of Sts Mary, Martha and Lazarus.
Pope Francis speaks of the great example of the siblings who regularly invited Jesus to dinner and who used their wealth to support the disadvantaged people in Jesus' community.
The story tells of how Martha and Mary ask Jesus who is the most blessed- Mary, who would sit at the feet of Jesus listening to his words or Martha who was usually in the kitchen preparing food. Mary, Martha and Lazarus were precious to Jesus because they were active in their faith, they went out into their community to share the good news as well as actively making a difference in the lives of others.
When Lazarus became seriously ill Jesus wasn't able to travel back in time to heal him. Instead Jesus raised him from the dead- an important sign for what was yet to come. Also it was the answer to the question about who is most blessed. Through the actions in their lives and their belief in Jesus and his mission, Lazarus was given new life.
