St Thomas More - an article by Mrs Duncan, head of religious education.

Kath Joblin —

Next Thursday our school will be celebrating Mass because it is the special feast day of St Thomas More and John Fisher - English martyrs for the faith. We ask that every child brings a can of food that we can donate to the foodbank on that day- thank you.

Next Thursday we celebrate our school patron, St Thomas More.

He was called to bear witness, not to how much he had achieved or how much he had studied, but instead to his belief that God must come first.

Thomas put God first by holding firm to what he believed was right and just. This cost him his life. The word ‘Martyr’ means to ‘bear witness’. We are called, hopefully not by having to give up our lives, to bear witness to what is right and just also. So many people in our world do this day in and day out through their actions of serving others.

We are all being challenged to think of how we can bear witness to a number of issues in our modern world.

As we celebrate the example of St Thomas More, it would be a good time to think and pray about how we can bear witness to our faith and how we can reflect our love of God by serving others also.
