Harvest time!

Kath Joblin —

All our gardening efforts are paying off with a harvest of 100 potatoes and a massive bunch of carrots.

Our children are so lucky to be part of the gardening -in-schools provided by Nina our PiPS tutor.

Miss Fielden's Year 2 and 3 class have worked alongside Nina every Thursday weeding, watering and growing their vegetables. It was great to see the sense of achievement on their faces this week as they washed the veggies they had grown themselves.

The PiPs organisation are entering a sustainable earth competition this year and a cameraman came in to film Miss Fielden's gardeners in action.

Good Luck Nina! Hopefully your film will open doors for more funding for the PiPS people in schools.

Our soil and microclimate are particularly suited to growing vegetables and berries. Over the summer the plants will continue to flourish due to the installation of an irrigation system fed from the downpipes attached to the junior block. Mr Webster enjoys putting his engineering expertise to work devising new systems to make the most of our natural resources.

A special thank you to Katie Horrocks, Skye's Mum, for the work and love she has put into the gardens. Katie has been tutoring a small group of students who are responding really well to being close to nature in order to reduce their anxiety levels. Katie is so calm and she has a wonderful way of teaching gently. Thank you Katie, for everything you do each day.
