It's kumara harvesting season!

Kath Joblin —

There was a lot of excitement in the gardens today as the Paua team lifted the kumara from their beds. At this time of the year gold and red kumara are ready for eating.

Next Tuesday our school is celebrating 22nd June, St.Thomas More Day. The Paua team are putting together a hangi to share while the Kina and Pipis are being treated to a sausage sizzle.

It's taken a year to produce our kumara crop and we are really proud of what has been produced. We collected two buckets full of kumara and these will be put into our hangi next week. It's amazing what wierd and wonderful shapes the kumara create as they grow.

Some of the really big kumara are too woody to go into the hangi unfortunately. There are plenty of juicy ones for us next week though.
