Knowing who you are, where you belong and the place where you live.... nga pepeha. We are learning to talk about ourselves.

Kath Joblin —

An important aspect of building relationships is finding common links and places or people we know. Whenever we meet we start that conversation...what's your name? where does your family come from? which part of Aotearoa New Zealand do you live in? Tell me about your family and what you really value.

Our teachers and students are exploring these questions and learning about how to introduce ourselves to others. Each teacher and child is learning their pepeha - you can see the visual pepeha on the walls of the classrooms, the gathering space and the staffroom.

Being resilient comes from a strong sense of knowing who we are, where we belong and which people hold us close. When we are faced with challenges we can overcome our anxieties and worries knowing that we are standing on the shoulders of our tipuna, our ancestors. Wherever we go they are with us and all their knowledge and mana has been poured into us.

Please come in and spend time in the Paua foyer where the walls are full of new knowledge and the walls of the classrooms reflect the learning we are doing.

Kina and Pipi are very keen for parents and grandparents to see what they have been learning about pepeha. Please come in and ask questions.
