Have you ever heard of EPRO8?

Kath Joblin —

Our senior students were given the opportunity to learn new skills last week when they took part in a tech class designing models.

Mr Paul Billing, the physics teacher from John Paul College, brought eight EPRO8 kits over to our school. He is organising a STEM day in Rotorua for the Catholic primary schools and we are keen to enter two teams. The STEM day is planned for the end of Term 3; 6th September. STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

If you have ever tried LEGO or MECCANO then you will have some idea of the fiddly bits involved in making models. The students are shown an image which they will try to copy and then they need to talk through their ideas together with their team mates to achieve the final result. Mr Webster, Matua Liam and Mr Billing worked alongside our teams for the morning encouraging innovation and team work. It was a great opportunity for the Year 6 students to refresh their skills and for the Year 5 to learn new ones.
