Mr Jones and Mr Wnukowski took the Year 12 and 13 Physics students to Rutherfords Den and the University of Canterbury to investigate radioactivity as part of an internal standard the boys are working on.

The boys re-enacted Rutherford's famous experiment with gold foil, studied a famous radioactive spy poisoning and visited Rutherford's first Science Lab at the Art Centre .

In the afternoon, the boys changed pace and visited the brand new Rutherford building at UC.

Whilst there, they handled real radioactive fuel rods and carried out experiments with radioactive sources to investigate half life of radioactive compounds and the penetration of radiation on organic material.

A great day and very real learning for our radiant boys.
