RIMG - Form Report 2018

RIMG

RIMG had an enjoyable year in 2018 despite finding the Monday first period scheduling of Mentoring limiting in terms of organising activities.

This year we welcomed one Year 7 newcomer Nick Harris and it was good to see how easily he fitted into the group and his growing confidence in “circle” discussions. His highlights this year were playing cricket and being able to have guitar lessons from Year 13 student Sam Gilzean. He is really looking forward to being in Year 8.

Noah Parsons, our only Year 8 student, is the class athlete and his highlight was competing in the Canterbury Athletics Championships and he is really looking forward to the Year 9 Camp.

Our three Year 9 members were experts on all things Fortnite – no problems filling in time at the weekends for these three!

Tayler Mutton was also the one who could always remind the class on Tuesday mornings what important points were made at Assembly on Monday. He relished his Rugby this year - not winning but coming close and looks forward more rugby. Jake Hayward, another newcomer, also enjoyed sport and making new friends while Lachlan Reid had the great experience of a family trip to America. All three enjoyed the Year 9 Camp.

Matthew Peoples has had a busy year with his scouting ambitions and enjoyed the Japan Rugby trip. He also took out the academic trophy in 10RI.

Jack Cunniffe continued his commitment to academic excellence in NCEA Level One and has enjoyed skiing. He is looking forward to the 2019 China trip.

We farewelled two Year 12 students at the end of the year. Criese Forbes who really enjoyed being part of the very successful Polyfest performance is starting a Work Skills course at Ara and Findlay Hunt whose highlight this year was playing rugby has started work at Bidfresh. Mitchel Ancit and Reegan Laidlaw will be the two Year 13 students next year and we look forward to seeing them accept the challenges of leadership.

Mitchel has been busy at his fast food job and is looking forward to a visit to Philippines. Reegan is pleased to have completed Level 2 has continued with his international trampolining ambitions. A highlight was his result in St Petersburg in the World Championships. -https://www.facebook.com/NZTrampoline/videos/561602850968516/

We also farewelled Luke Shallcrass who became the pizza run organiser. He claimed his highlight was dying his hair orange and is planning to work fulltime before making a final decision on his next steps.

For the first time this year we welcomed two short-term Japanese students into the class. Hirotaka Kojima who enjoyed his time in the College production and Yuki Ooi who was proud to learn the haka. They both left at the end of the year to return to their Japanese schools – Hiro in Nagoya and Yuki in Tokyo. We wish them well and hope they keep in touch.
