Our Victorious First XI

Paul McCarthy —

The 2019 season has been a great start for our First XI cricket team. An outright victory by eight wickets over Shirley Boys’ First XI sets the team up well for the remainder of the competition. The current success is simply following on from the foundations this team built last season; by winning their 2-day and 1-day grades respectively. The team has a core of experienced players and is well led by Fraser Buckley(captain) and Will Andrews (vice-captain). Central to our team’s success has been its core values of discipline, support, and being positive. These values have manifested into a great attitude by the players on and off the field.

Some outstanding individual performances so far have been from Fraser Buckley, who scored 100 against Shirley off just 63 balls. Kieran Charlton was equally impressive with the ball against Shirley, taking 6/19 then 5/26 from either innings. An 11-wicket haul that puts him up there in the College’s history for bowling performances.

The team also has a great community behind it. On Saturdays the team is coached by Stu Andrews and managed by Mike Buckley. We are grateful to all our parents who contribute in sourcing fundraising and help from many different areas.

Recently we have also been gifted a new portable net system by Ashley Mayo, the father of recent old boy Harry. Mike Buckley arranged through his work the delivery truck and we are also grateful to Hagley Windows and Doors for covering the cost of this.

We are looking forward to the season ahead and this team continuing to improve and to represent this community with pride. We encourage your support down at the games and would love to see you there!
