1st XI Cricket - 2018

Paul McCarthy —

Cricket Season 2018

2018 has proven itself to be a hugely successful season for the STC First XI. We have achieved some outstanding results, winning the Two-day Bowl section, then just recently winning the One-day Cup competition.

Although there has been some outstanding individual contributions along the way, one of the main drivers we can attribute our success to is a very strong team culture. This has been evident in the way the players have trained and supported each other during matches. At the beginning of the season the players sat down and chose 3 main values, support, trust, and respect, to underpin what we do as a group. These values were imbued in the actions of the players who each realized that the collective contributions of a team become far more significant than those of a few individuals.

A significant culture shift doesn’t happen by accident and we can attribute this largely to an outstanding leadership group of Conor Fitzgerald and Harry Mayo. There are also others within the team of a similar mindset ready and willing to continue where our Year 13s left off.

We are also very grateful to our community of parents who contributed on and off the field to the overall success of the this team. I’d especially like to thank our Saturday coaches, Stu Andrews and Brendan Fitzgerald, and also to our scorer, Mike Buckley. Brendan is departing with his son Conor after a significant time of service to the College.

The team is eagerly anticipating the challenges that come with higher levels of competition next season.
