Josh Toohey was in the first ever Year 9 Class for Chinese back in 2005 when he first started at STCC. Throughout his time at STCC he represented the school and his local club for basketball and swimming. As a junior, he was involved in school production and theatresports. As a senior he was in the College debating team and Canterbury debating team.

In year 11 he was picked by Christchurch City Council to travel to China with the Mayor of Christchurch on the first STCC involved trip to China in 2007.

In year 12 he was in the Young Enterprise Urban Warriors team as managing director, picking up a national excellence award.

In Year 13 (2009) he was awarded the Dux of the College award.

At Canterbury university: Bachelor of arts in political science and Chinese,

Then a first class honours degree in international relations and diplomacy. He was the top graduating student in his honours class and he was the 2014 senior scholar for the College of Arts following that he lived in China and studied through the American Ivy league University Princeton to complete Chinese summer papers in Beijing.

Most recently he has lived in Oxford, England: he has just finished a Master of Science in Contemporary Chinese studies. He currently lives in London and walks across the London Bridge each day to work for Strozfriedberg Associates. He is an analyst conducting investigations and market analysis in Chinese for international corporations.
