Rugby - Under 15 in Japan

Chris Leader —

Highlights:

Konnichiwa from Tokyo, Japan where the under 15 rugby team touched down for a four match tour of the country. Awesome first up result against Tokyo Gakaan High School, with a 40-19 victory. Great game and experience for the boys.

The Under 15 Rugby Team visited the Yamaha rugby club in Shizuoka. STC old boy and current Yamaha and Japan National player, Uwe Helu met the boys and shared his experiences as a STC student and professional rugby player for Yamaha and Japan. The team then got the opportunity to meet the whole Yamaha squad, observe their training and performed the haka for them.

A huge thanks to Uwe and the Yamaha RFC for looking after the team and their hospitality.

Shizuoka the home of Mt Fuji is a city of 4 million people and is two hours south of Tokyo. This is where the under 15 rugby team spent two days and had a day long exchange with Shizuoka Seiko, a catholic boys school. The exchange involved the team being taken around the city and playing the schools rugby team, where STC ran out victorious 36-21. A great game of rugby displayed with excellent passion, intensity and structure.

The Under 15 Japan Rugby tour wraped up in Fukuoka, where the team ran out victorious against Tokai Fukuoka 64-17. This was after beating Nada College in a close battle 36-21 in Kobe. Great effort from the boys to back up and play two games in two days, with huge amount of travel undertaken across the country of Japan in order to play.

It was also a great experience for the team to play at Global Arena in Fukuoka, which is home to the pro top 14 team Fukuoka Sanix.
