HYDRA

David Ivory —

This is an innovative multi year level programme for students at St Thomas. Participation in the programme is by application. If you are interested please read the full article and apply now!

Expressions of interest sought from students in Years 7 to 11 to participate in multi year level project work. The programme is called HYDRA. We are taking the future problem solving projects, on offer at other schools, redesigning, refocusing and applying in a genuine and authentic manner as real time group project work.

Using the HYDRA name as it is symbolic of the St Thomas of Canterbury investment put into 21st Century learning strategies and environment. By analogy the strong steam of the Hydra is nourished by a strong technological based learning environment which will in turn support strong project work. HYDRA is voluntary and work will have an outward focus – engagement with community groups/business with a view to making a difference, and generating nominal financial return.

Soft group skills will be both developed, practiced and formally evidenced through this programme. We have placed staff resource into HYDRA planning– initially one project group – with the prospect of more next term. Like other successful group work @ STC (social enterprise/youth custody index/sporting teams) we have made a deliberate decision to facilitate group work in lunch hours with an expectation of additional student work in their own time.
