Rowing Success

Dan Ryan —

In the last week of Term 3 a group of rowers travelled down to Twizel to compete at a very unique regatta – the Ruataniwha 2000 metre Single Scull Regatta, or the R2K. Unlike most regattas, this regatta is restricted to single scullers only. Single sculling is a very tough discipline which requires strong self-confidence, persistence, and quite a bit of grit. One of our boys came away from this regatta with a silver medal in the Under Sixteen category. Congratulations to Cairo Horgan for his successful performance, finishing in front of Ashburton College’s Caleb Armstrong, in a time of 8:20. The winner of the event was Timaru’s George Talbot.

The Rowing Squad now turns its attention to the first whole-squad regatta in November – the Ashburton Sprint Series Regatta.
