Year 12 Hauoratanga

Paul Burton —

Hauoratanga and Haerenga Classes are underway!

The new wellbeing and development courses at Year 11 and Year 12 have kicked off with a bang this year.

All Year 11 and 12 students jumped on a bus last Friday having no idea where they were heading. Year 11 trekked up Rapaki Track and climbed a further distance to look out over the city.

Year 12 scaled the heights of Mt Herbert, the highest peak in the Banks Peninsula. This was to allow them time to think, talk and challenge themselves through a physical lens.

On the top of the mountain they were asked to find a place by themselves for five minutes. In this time they were asked to think back to 2019 and drop something that had bothered or annoyed them. If it was still too raw to drop, they were asked to think of ways to overcome this issue. It was a poignant part of the day with some great reflection. It also allowed the boys a chance to reconnect with their peers without the need for social media or technology.

Thanks to all of the teachers involved in the programme for taking these young men out for this experience.
