Marlow House Report

Tēnā koutou to the St Thomas whanau of Marlow. 2021 - what a year it has been for this wharenui, whether it was winning swimming sports or the Special Character Week Haka at Hato Tamati the bright colours of kōwhai shone high all year round. As the leader of the Marlow house it has again been an honour to lead and serve the men of this house and build strong connections and relations with each and everyone of them. The word relationships stands out for me in my interactions with the men of this house and walking around everyday at school and being able to have meaningful kōrero with our men is the point that stands out for me.

Passion and culture are the important areas I have looked to continue making stronger and stronger for Marlow. This was evident this year with the sea of yellow at swimming sports and athletics, haka and singing practice throughout special character week and then on to the big competition on the last Friday of Term 2. Seeing all boys from years 7-13 embrace our haka and do it with the absolute mana and passion it deserves will be a memory for all boys of the house to take away – as will be the winning of the trophy.

What has added to our passion and culture has been the regular house meetings on a Wednesday morning and setting our key messages, goals and kaupapa for the week. This is aided by all the great Marlow mentor teachers and our Kaitiaki Ethan Hill and the year 13s helping him along the way. A big shout out and mihi to all those involved in helping and guide our boys throughout a year that has certainly had a number of challenges. The culture that you and the year 13s set has gotten our boys through another tough year and your mentoring and guidance leads the way and all bodes well for the future leadership of the house.

TBC are the final points for the year but humbly we should be very very close to success.

Kia ora rawa atu
