Michelle Tull —

On Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th July, Year 13 student Tim Marshall attended the 2016 Youth Parliament as the representative for the Hon. Amy Adams who is the MP for Selwyn as well as being the Minister of Justice, Minister for Courts, Minister of Broadcasting, and Minister for Communications.

The Youth Parliament has been held every three years since 1994, when it was first held to mark the 20th anniversary of the lowering of the voting age to 18 years. Youth Parliament replicates the real Parliament as close as possible.

This year 121 Youth MP’s spent two days at Parliament to debate legislation, sit on select committees, have the opportunity to learn first-hand about New Zealand’s democracy, and to influence decision making.
