The 1st V basketball team this season was blessed with a lot of young talent that competed in every game they played. Qualifying early in the season for Thomson Trophy Div1 with a comfortable win over Rangiora High School. The boys started the season spectacularly with an underdog win over number 2 ranked team, St Andrews.

With gutsy performances all the way through the Thomson Trophy, losing two games on the buzzer. Eventually the boys made the Quarter Finals of Div1 and played the higher seeded Christ College, boys played great but unfortunately a few 3s at the end of the game cost us a spot in the semis.

The boys moved onto South Island Tournament for AA Schools. Unluckily we were drawn in the pool of death with Rangiora, Nayland, Nelson and Otago Boys. With wins over Nayland and Nelson (Thanks to a Quinn Lavery buzzer-beater), the boys missed out of the top 8 by points difference. That lead to another tough match up, Christs College in the 9-16 bracket. With both teams scoring over 100, it took a 70 point performance by Christs star player to beat us.

Overall it was a brilliant season and hoping to build a stronger team over the off season and come back stronger than ever.Nev Brooker
