ST KEVINS EXCHANGE

Rugby 2020 —

This year we made the journey down to St Kevin’s for our annual school sports and cultural exchange.

We were over the moon that this event was still able to go ahead with the only restriction being on numbers. For us this meant we were unable to have parents or supporters at the games. However the boys did their best and represented the school immaculately.

This year was a little bit different as not all of the games were played at the same event. We had an U15 Rugby,U15 Basketball, Senior Basketball, Senior Football and Debating team attend the first event. Results from the first competition day saw our First X unfortunately take a loss to St Kevin’s team. This was a tough loss however the score didn’t accurately reflect the play as it was very close throughout and only slipped away in the last minute. (89-95 St Kevin’s). Following this our U15 team Rugby were defeated (21- 41 St Kevin’s).

After the first few games the boys were able to come back and support at the court for the U15 Basketball take the win (77- 53 St Kevin’s). The weather then took a turn for the worst and the Football game had to have a pause in play for players to get cover from a hail storm. This offered a great chance for players to check out the Debating team. The topic was if people should or shouldn’t be able to regain access from overseas during the time of Covid. These debaters did a great job gathering their information and presenting their position however unfortunately the judges chose the winning arguments to have come from the St Kevin’s team. The hail storm passed over and we were then able to return to the field to take the win on the football pitch. This would leave us waiting on the results of the firsts rugby games to even things up, a few weeks later our Senior development rugby team travelled on the last day of term to compete against the St Kevin’s side. Won the game 34 – 22 to leave us with an overall draw against the school.

Looking forward to 2021 to host this event here at school!
